Outstanding Achievement by a Music Student

Karen Nakajima, a 2008 graduate of the Diploma in Music Program, is the recipient of the Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal which is awarded to the student who achieves the highest overall average upon graduation from a diploma-level, post-secondary program. Additionally, Karen has been awarded $18,000 in scholarships. These include the University of British Columbia Chancellor’s Entrance Scholarship, the University of British Columbia President’s Entrance Scholarship and the Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship. Karen also received a UBC School of Music Entrance Scholarship in recognition of her superior achievement and potential. A student of David Vandereyk, Karen recently completed the Royal Conservatory of Music ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance with First-Class Honours. Karen will continue her music studies at the UBC School of Music as a Music Scholarship Major and plans a career in music education.
